No more Leverkusen: Tah leaves in the summer

Jonathan Tah will, according to Bayer Leverkusen's sports director Simon Rolfes, "definitely leave the club" in the summer.

The 27-year-old's contract expires on 30 June 2023. Leverkusen will not extend the contract.

Rolfes explained the decision with Tah's lack of perspective in Leverkusen.

"He's not one of those who must play," Rolfes told the Bild newspaper.

After missing the World Cup in Qatar, Tah wants to play in the Nations League and the Euro 2024 in Germany.

For this, the central defender needs regular playing time.

So what happens next? At the moment it is still unclear where Tah will play from the summer.

There is said to be interest from Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur.

Tah did not want to comment on the rumours on Tuesday evening.

"I'll make a decision at the right time," he said.
